140 Quilts Sent To Colombian Orphanage

The Rochester work group recently made and donated 140 quilts to an orphanage in Colombia. This mission is supported by the Sisters of St. Frances.

Sister Tierency, a Franciscan nun who lives and works at the orphanage, came to the July Rochester work meeting at Assisi Heights. She was presented with the quilts and other warm items to take to the babies in Colombia.

Conditions are so poor that we had been told that sometimes mothers wrapped their newborns in their own shirts because that is all they had available.

Thank you to all volunteers who helped make these quilts. The original goal was to make 100 quilts to support Sister Tierency’s work, but the Rochester volunteers rallied and made many more!

Thanks also to Kary Garvey who is the coordinator for this mission project. If you’d like to contact Kary, her e-mail is: KGarvey@means.net.

Infant Bunting Project

Ana Scheel has volunteered to coordinate the winter bunting project again this year. If you would like to help, please contact Ana at 507-252-8737 or e-mail: AScheel@msn.com.

September Projects-
Emphasis on Ecuador

We are making light colored lightweight fabric sleepers for Ecuador. Kate Welp of Rochester is a nurse who has made mission trips to Ecuador (her daughter’s birthplace) and she will deliver these items which are much needed in an orphanage there.
