North Metro Work Group
The North Metro Work Group is now meeting at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mounds View on the second Saturday of each month from 12:00 – 4:00. The church has generously donated the use of its Luther Hall basement for our meetings, and we couldn’t be more grateful. The room is large enough for everyone to meet together while working on separate tasks, and the parking lot is right outside the door, making it easy for us to load and unload our cars.
Upcoming Work dates: Feb. 8th, March 8th, April 12th, May 10th, 2003.
I want to thank everyone who has spent one or more Saturday afternoons with us as we sew, pack and enjoy each other’s company. Our projects range from sewing items we’re short of that month to stuffing bundles and preparing them for delivery to the hospitals. By the end of the meeting, several folks are taking home bundles they’ll deliver during the week.
You don’t have to deliver bundles or sew to join us – all willing hands are welcome. We’ll find a way for you to help, and you’ll probably enjoy a laugh or two besides! Don’t forget to invite a friend. Messiah Lutheran Church is located at 2848 County Rd. H-2 in Mounds View. Directions to the church can be found on our web site.

twilts@bundlesoflove.orgMore Babies and Families Being Helped!
The North Metro work group would like to welcome Unity Hospital of Fridley, Mercy Hospital of Coon Rapids and the North East Strong Together "Way to Grow" program to the growing list of agencies we serve. We’ll be delivering bundles to NEST "Way to Grow" and bundles and burial garments to the hospitals. We’re looking forward to a great working relationship with these new agencies.
Thank you MOMS!
We’d like to extend a very special thank you to the Shoreview MOMS Club. Early in September, 12 members of the group spent two hours tying quilts and cutting receiving blankets, burp cloths and bibs for the North Metro group. In fact, they tore enough receiving blankets for the entire month – about 110 blankets – and cut most of the bibs and burp cloths we needed for September as well. Thank you for helping us keep Minnesota babies warm!
Wishing you Many Happy Birthdays, Cynthia!
Cynthia Stover recently celebrated a birthday and commenting that she "didn’t need anything", asked family and friends to make a donation to Bundles of Love instead of buying her gifts. Beth Livingston, another BoL volunteer, hosted the party. As a result, several monetary donations and the donations of yarn, fabric and other baby items made their way to Bundles of Love. Happy Birthday, Cynthia – thank you for your generous gifts to Bundles of Love.
Thanks to the "Special Delivery" Team
I want to extend a great big THANK YOU to those volunteers who deliver bundles to local hospitals. I know this job can be a hassle sometimes, but fortunately, on some days it’s unexpectedly rewarding. On a recent delivery to Children’s Hospital, I was stopped in the hall by a mom whose infant was in the NICU. Her baby had been given one of our quilts, and the gift was so meaningful to this scared and anxious mom that she sought me out – a complete stranger – just to say "thanks."
It takes the time and talent of many people for Bundles of Love to effectively serve the community, and every job is important!
I want you to know that your work is noticed and appreciated by both your fellow volunteers and the families we serve!
"Recycled" Donations
Marilyn Rukavina recently presented Bundles of Love with a donation of over $30. She and her husband, Rob earned the funds by cashing in on aluminum cans collected by the couple and friends over many months. Thanks for the creative idea and the generous donation Rob and Marilyn!
North Metro Volunteers Craft Sale
The North Metro Work Group participated in several Craft Boutiques this year to raise money for Bundles of Love. Volunteers made a variety of gifts including Autumn, Halloween, and Christmas decorations, embroidered shirts, homemade jam, soap, gift cards, children's items including a play house cover for a folding table, decorated bags, and many more items than we can even remember! A special bootie tree was available with sets of hats, mittens and booties which shoppers were encouraged to purchase and donate back to Bundles of Love. The "roving" sale items were displayed at several craft sales around the Twin Cities area beginning with Centennial School in Lino Lakes, and moving on to Apple Valley, and St. Paul. So far, approximately $800 has been raised to help purchase supplies for Bundles of Love. Many thanks to all the talented volunteers who made and donated items for the sale, to Teresa Wilts, Becky Strasser and Linda Sjoquist who coordinated the effort, and all those who helped at the sale locations.
Fundraising Made Easy With Food Perspectives, Inc.
Food Perspectives, Inc. is a consumer testing company which will help organizations raise funds by having members participate in 4-5 taste tests or home use tests per year. Each time a user takes part in a study, they receive a payment of $13-$30 and their organization is credited with $6-$9.
To participate, Bundles of Love would have to register a minimum of 30 testers, ages 18-65, who do not have food allergies or work for major food manufacturers. Individuals would be contacted at home to be recruited for a taste or use test in a location within a reasonable drive of their home. Day and evening times are offered for all tests. For more information see their web site at http://www.foodperspectives.com
