Grandma's Precious Baby Bib
© Beth Koskie, March 2004
Materials:
- WW cotton yarn (I used Sugababies)
- Size 8 needles
- 2 dpn size 8’s
- 1 stitch holder
Base Directions (will form a basketweave pattern):
Cast on 30 sts.
Rows 1-6: Knit across.
Rows 7-12: K7, *P4, K4, repeat from * across, end K3.
Rows 13-18: K3, *P4, K4, repeat from * across, end K7.
Repeat rows 7-18 once, then rows 7-12 once more.
Knit 6 rows even.
Neck directions:
Next row: K7, put on stitch holder; bind off 16 sts, knit 7.
Working on these last 7 sts, knit 15 rows even.
Then K2tog, knit to end of row; do this four times total until there are three sts left on needle. Switch to dpn of same size (or you can switch to a size 6 dpn if you want a thinner cord for tying). Work an I-cord (knit 3 sts, slip to other end of needle and knit these sts again, pulling yarn tightly to form a circle/cord) that is 8-10” long. End off and weave in end.
Put other 7 sts back on needles and repeat as for first side. End off, weave in ends.
This bib should be pretty reversible, and the cotton will make it very absorbent.
