4 sc by 4 rows = 1-inch square
Crochet Hook:

Burial Size
Finished size: Approximately 13" by 14"
Materials: 4 oz. Worsted weight yarn
Ch 51
Newborn Size
Finished size: Approximately 20" by 25"
Materials: 12 oz. Worsted weight yarn
Ch 75
DIRECTIONS:
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in 1st st * Skip 2 sts. In the next st work (dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc) = Shell. Skip 2 sts; sc in next st. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: * Ch2, sc in middle ch at top of shell. Ch 2, dc in next sc between shells. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc in each st across, including each ch st. Ch1, turn.
Repeat rows 2, 3, & 4 eight times for burial size, 23 times for newborn size, ending with a row 3. Ch 3, turn.
Last row: Dc in each st across, including ch sts.
Edge: Turn afghan to the side. Going down the left edge, * work a shell in the next space made from a ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 space. Repeat from *, ending with a sc in the corner. Turn and work along bottom same as row 2. Turn and work along right edge same as left edge. Work along top same as row 2. Join with sl st in 1st sc of edge.
