Ruth's V-Stitch Afghan

Gauge:
4 sc by 4 rows = a 1-inch square
Crochet Hook:
Size "H"
2 Different SIZES to choose:
Burial Size
Finished size: Approximately 15" by 15"
Materials: 3 oz. Worsted weight yarn
Ch 52
Newborn Size
Finished size: Approximately 30" by 35"
Materials: 12 oz. Worsted weight yarn
Ch 100
DIRECTIONS:
Row 1: Work V-stitch in 5th ch from hook = dc, ch1, dc. * Skip 2 chains, V-stitch in next ch. Repeat from * across, ending with skip 1 ch, dc in last ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Work a V-stitch in the center ch-1 of each V-stitch. End with a dc in the last st. Ch 3, turn. (16 V-sts for burial size, 32 for newborn size)
Repeat row 2 until afghan measures the needed length (13 inches for burial size, 33 inches for newborn size).
Edge Row 1: Ch 1, work 2 sc in corner. Turn afghan to the side and sc along left edge, bottom, right edge, then the top edge. Work 2 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st in the 1st sc at top left corner.
Edge Row 2: Ch1, sc in the same st as joining sl st. * Ch 3, skip 1 st, sc in next st. Repeat from * all around outside. End with a sl st in the 1st sc at the top left corner. Finish off.
