Yarn:

Any baby yarn or double strand of 2/24

Machine:

Any standard gauge machine, no ribber required.

Tension:

Whatever works best with your yarn (they need to stretch a little) Tension 5, 6 or 7 No gauge required

TOP OF BOOTIE:

Cast on 26 (22, 18, 14) stitches with main yarn and knit 16 (14, 12, 10) rows in stockinette stitch. (you can add a few more rows if making larger sizes)

To turn heel you work in short rows and push the needles out of work on same side as carriage. (Set Machine for Hold Position)

Push needle next to carriage in hold position every row until you have 6 (5, 4, 3) needles in hold position on each side.

HEEL:

Note: At this point you can add a different color yarn for the following 6 (6, 5, 4) rows of the heel to make the bootie resemble a sock.

You should now have 14 (12, 10, 8) stitches remaining.

Knit 6 (6, 5, 4) rows to form the heel.

To complete the turning you need to return the needles that were pushed in Hold Position, but this time you work from the inside of the heel. Wrap yarn to prevent holes.

Push one needle from the inside of heel (opposite carriage) half way in so it will knit and knit row.

Repeat above until all needles are returned to Work Position.

TOE:

(Set Machine for Hold Position Off)

Knit 14 (12, 11, 8) rows

Cast off: Break yarn leaving a 12" tail of yarn. With yarn needle pick up each stitch from the machine, pull yarn tightly to gather the toe, and continue sewing bootie.
